Chapter Eight

We silently pack our bags and check out of the hotel, the tension of what happened the previous night hanging between us. I don’t offer breakfast, and Sophie doesn’t ask for a slushie as I pull out onto the highway.

She throws up her hands. “You would have never made a move if I hadn’t. Tell me I’m wrong.”

“I can’t, Sophie,” I snap back, frustrated with her attitude. My hand grips the steering wheel. Even if I didn’t have the feelings I should for my wife, it doesn’t make it better that I fucked someone else.

“Okay, so for the sake of this argument, if you weren’t married to my mom? Then what would have happened?” she asks.

I run my tongue along the back of my teeth, debating if I should be truthful. “I would have bent you over the hood of this car that first night. We might not have made it out of your apartment’s parking lot.”

Sophie sucks in a sharp breath. “Then fucking do it. Let’s not pretend you care about being faithful to my mother. You’ve basically said you’re in a relationship because you lack the balls to break it off, just like you lack the courage to take what you want from me.”

I’m stunned silent at her words, with disbelief that she would speak to me like that. Anger builds in my chest as my breathing picks up. I’m tempted to pull the car over and spank her ass red.

“Take your shorts and panties off,” I demand through clenched teeth, glancing at her before turning back to the road.

Sophie only hesitates for a few seconds before shifting in her seat to lean against the door. She lifts her hips and slides the jeans shorts and her red thong off, dropping them onto the floor.

“Now what?” her sultry voice asks.
